Som Kear, 10 years old. He wears a hat he found in the dump 3 months ago. The navy blue jacket is a new tressure, found 6 days earlier. Som Kear works from 7-11 on weekdays and 2-4 on Sundays. He goes to a nearby school in the afternoon. He earns about US$ 1 a day.
Stung Meanchey Municipal Waste Dump in southern Phnom Penh, in Stung Meanchey district. Over 500 children works long hours side by side with some 1500 adults. They all live in the slums surrounding the dump, which covers about 100 acres, or almost 6 hectares. They make less then US$ 1,50 a day
